Now serving male and female youth ages 6 to 19 with IQ of approximately
55 and above
Who
should be referred to START?
The focus is on youth with neurological and developmental deficits coupled
with having experienced repeated trauma through abuse and neglect. The
result of these multiple factors is the difficulty in forming secure
attachments and healthy human relationships. As a result, these youth
create chaos and disharmony in their life with maladaptive behaviors.
What
makes the START program stand out?
1. START provides a SAFE environment where youth can learn productive
ways to develop healthy relationships. This is accomplished through
enhanced security and individual bedrooms for each youth. A close staff
to youth ratio increases supervision along with 24-hour awake staff.
2. Adriel's Teaching Family model is incorporated to provide a nurturing
environment and teaching proactive social skills to prepare youth for
integrating into society. This is accomplished through staff receiving
intensive training and evaluation to correctly implement the Teaching
Family Model with youth in care. With our model, youth receive a high
level of structure and consistency so they know what the expectations
and tolerance levels are and can then be successful with learning functional
life skills.
3. Youth receive intensive therapeutic services to address maladaptive
cognitive, emotional, and behavioral issues that prevent healthy
functioning. The service youth receive include individual, peer/group
and family therapy (when indicated) that is enhanced and individualized
for each youth to address maladaptive behaviors that affect various
dimensions of healthy relationship development. Intensive case
management services focus on youth getting ready for and planning step
down to a family environment.
