The Adriel Family Cottage is used for families of our youth. The youth we serve are with us due to the severity of behavioral and emotional problems resulting from abuse and neglect in their lives. A critical part of their healing involves working with the families from which these children originated. In the past, the distance has been too great for families to visit their children. By providing them with an apartment, they will have the ability to spend a weekend in a family-like setting with their child. The hope for this new program is that the opportunity to visit on a regular basis and work on the issues that brought the youth into Adriel’s care will expedite the child’s return to their biological/adoptive families. The expectation is that this will encourage more rapid reunification with the youths’ families due to the ability for all the parents to observe and apply effective parenting skills taught by Adriel’s direct care staff.
