Training Marathon
2 day training, 9am - 9pm
Target Audience: Foster Caregivers
Training Hours: 10 hours a day for two days

Training marathons are designed to have foster caregivers receive face to face required courses (except CPR & First Aid) in one weekend. 20 of the 30 continuing education training hours are covered by the following courses:


  • Parents and Foster Care as part of the child protection teams
  • How Foster Care should work with children and their families regarding placement, separation and attachment issues
  • Foster Care working with children's families
  • Developmentally appropriate activities for children
  • The dynamics of child abuse and neglect: recognizing and preventing child abuse and neglect
  • Understanding and addressing the issues confronting adolescents preparing for independent living
  • Physical restraint issues and techniques for appropriate use
  • The effects of child abuse and neglect on child development
  • Caring for children who have been sexually abused and preventing child abuse and neglect
  • Substance abuse and dependency
  • Symptoms of mental illness and learning disorders
  • Cultural competency
  • Behavior management techniques
  • Effects of care giving on children's families
