Providing quality care for children in the spirit of Christian love

Our Core Values: Foundations that Support Foster Care

We have believed from day one that Christian values are the foundations that support foster care. They are the bedrock upon which we have built our mission and our organization. We developed our current set of core values through a concerted team effort including board members, staff, and pastors from the local community. There is scripture at the root of each value. These statements reflect who we are as an organization.

Integrity as evidenced by the truth we speak and the actions we exhibit

Integrity is one of the foundations that support foster care, and we see it in Psalms 78:72, which says, “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”

Though David failed as a man and father in many respects, the Bible remembers him as a leader and man of “integrity of heart”. Integrity is not found in perfection, for such a goal is unattainable. Integrity is found in the desire to live honestly, be what you say, say what you mean, admit when you’re wrong, and finish what you started. David did that. When his life was finished, he was remembered as “a man after God’s own heart ” (Acts 13:22).

Serving the spiritual, physical, psychological, and educational welfare of children

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

In order to “train up the child,” Adriel will serve the “whole” child. We recognize that children come to Adriel with a variety of needs (spiritual, physical, psychological, and educational) and that only when we strive to meet all of these needs can we fully serve the child and the foundations that support foster care.

Stewardship of those resources with which we have been entrusted

Luke 16:11-12 says, “So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?”

We have the responsibility to use Adriel’s resources wisely and efficiently. Cell phones, telephones, copiers, and computers are all examples of Adriel’s resources. Adriel is often entrusted with others’ resources which come in many forms, from monetary and time donations to human life. We must be faithful managers of all with which we have been entrusted.

Cultivating a culture of excellence

1st Corinthians 10:31 states, “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.”

God wants all people to excel in both what they are and in what they do. We cannot love God with all our hearts (Matt. 23:37) without seeking to do our best for the glory of God. The pursuit of excellence should be a goal in all that we do as one of the primary foundations of support for foster care, but it must be motivated by the right values, priorities, and motives.

A spirit of teamwork

The apostle Paul says in First Corinthians 12:14, “The body does not consist of one member but of many.”

Adriel is not just one member but many members who have gifts for understanding scripture, providing therapy, handling money, teaching classes, mentoring young people, maintaining buildings, and caring for children. While we all have important jobs to perform, we know that we are just one part of a complex and multi-talented team known as Adriel.
